First Librarians’ Discussion Group Meeting in Cairo

On 23 October 2012, Amanda Click led the first session of the Librarians’ Discussion Group at the Information Resource Center (IRC) of the American Embassy in Cairo. The purpose of this group is to bring together Egyptian librarians from different sectors to discuss professional trends in librarianship, and the first meeting included librarians from academic, public, and special libraries. Amanda asked participants to read the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards prior to the discussion, and moderated a discussion about the relevance of the Standards for diverse patrons in different types of libraries in Cairo. Cathy Marsicek, the Information Resource Officer and SILS alumna based at the IRC hopes to continue the Librarians’ Discussion Group monthly, and all group members will have the opportunity to lead discussions.
